Second Crazy Like That Logo

Second Crazy Like That Logo

Nothing says, “cute” like an adorable, goofy faced dog.  As much as I love puppies and anything else with four legs, Crazy Like That’s puppy dog logo did not speak geek.

After spending many hours coming up with logo design alternatives, mostly with mathmatical symbols, I ran my creations past @base10.  We both agreed, some were ok, but none of them said, “run with it.”  Frustrated and feeling disappointed, we discussed what says geek.  @base10 wanted to look at the matter logically. I wanted to pay professionals who knew what the heck they were doing.

Our current italicized Minon Pro font said, “crazy”, but it left out the geek aspect.  He suggested we start by updating the text to use the Monaco font, since it has a computer style to it. As he mentioned this, he stared longingly at his terminal window, calling him back to his programming.  The terminal glared back and said, “you are such a geek.”

Within five minutes, he stepped through the entire process of “what says geek.”  We tossed in a couple of dots between words for readability and ta-da,  we had something that fit the doctor’s orders.

We hope you enjoy our new logo and would love to hear your thoughts on our choice.

    Dear CLT,
I’ve just happened upon your site by way of a strategically placed gmail ad. Since I should be working on an organic chemistry lab that was due yesterday, I decided to read several posts and subsequently comment on this one. I may be smart but I am certainly NOT motivated.
I’d just like to say that I love puppy dogs and the sketch of one from your previous logo is A-dorable. However, I do agree that it has slim to none “geekappeal”… except, I guess, to geeky veterinarians? I like the new logo but I have one question… what is with the $_ ? It looks kind of like a typo, which is ungeeky. That being said, please don’t reply pointing out all the typos in my comment here. Is there some significance to the $_ ? Is it, perhaps, for the reader to fill out in their own mind? ie. [crazy.like.that]$5 like a DIY price tag? Or maybe it is some reference that is over my head because clearly your geekdom surpasses my own. Just curious.

    Cheers.

Organic chemistry, one of my favorite classes. You’re trying to avoid reading some of the most fascinating subject matter on the planet!? Indeed, it does take a lot of work. I recall reading each chapter twice.

Onto your question, I am sure other people are asking the same thing. The “$_” is a Linux command line prompt. It falls under the computer brand of geeky. We thought having a blinking square blob was tacky, and went with an underscore version instead. If you’d like to learn more, check out this video “Introduction to the Terminal 1″.

    Good luck with your lab!
